We didn’t set out to reinvent jewelry packaging. Our goal was simple: find packaging as eco and ethical as our jewelry. Turns out that’s not so easy. We made countless calls to suppliers, visited way too many facilities, vetted an innumerable number of samples and asked questions no one had ever asked before — one CEO even thanked us for our thoroughness. And yet, we couldn’t find anything that met our exceptionally high eco and ethical standards.
So we had to think outside the box — literally.
The challenge felt insurmountable. But life has a funny way of hiding gifts within obstacles, and we quickly realized our packaging woes were really a blessing in disguise. Eliminating the standard jewelry box opened a world of possibilities. We use far less materials, which equals far less waste. No more shipping boxes, packing peanuts, box liners or extra papers. And the few materials we do need — just paper and fabric — are renewable resources that are 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
The crowning glory of our packaging — the ribbon — is hand-loomed by artisans in a small village in India out of 100% organic silk sustainably harvested from the heart of a protected forest. In addition to being both ethical and eco-friendly, this ribbon was chosen in celebration of our namesake, the Mulberry, whose leaves — our emblem — are the sole food of silkworms. To discover more about our namesake, read Our Lore.
In addition to being certified by both Green Seal and the Forest Stewardship Council, all of the paper used in our packaging is composed of 100% post consumer recycled paper, processed chlorine-free, manufactured using 100% renewable green electricity and printed in a Green Certified facility.
Our pouches are handmade by the sweetest woman — she spends the majority of her time teaching kids, including those with special needs, how to sew — in California using 100% certified-organic, chlorine-free, cotton flannel.
